The Bologna Process is an intergovernmental European reform process aimed at establishing the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). It derives its name from the so-called Bologna Declaration, signed in 1999 by ministers in charge of higher education from 29 European countries. Turkey has been part of the Bologna Process since 2002.
The European Higher Education Area is envisaged as an open space that allows students, graduates, and higher education staff to benefit from unhampered mobility and equitable access to high quality higher education. The corner stones are mutual recognition of degrees and other higher education qualifications, transparency (readable and comparable degrees organized in a three-cycle structure) and European cooperation in quality assurance.
In the Bologna Process, the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and the Diploma Supplement (DS) play a crucial role. Equally important are the Overarching Qualifications Framework for the EHEA and the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the EHEA. Another inherent feature of the EHEA is the social dimension of European higher education with an emphasis on participative equity and employability of graduates in a lifelong learning context.
MEF University is designing all of its academic programs in full alignment with the European qualification frameworks and the Turkish National Qualifications Framework. For each program, the learning outcomes are related to the Turkish national qualifications framework and the contribution of all courses included in the curriculum structure to the stated outcomes is mapped. For the sake of transparency, a table showing these relationships for each particular program will be posted on the University website.
Furthermore, MEF University is benchmarking all of its academic programs with the top global institutions in its field, and formulating the learning outcomes and curriculum structures in strict adherence to international accreditation standards, e.g. ABET for engineering, AACSB and EQUIS in business education. It is the aim of MEF University to have all of its academic programs internationally accredited.
