To support Flipped Learning, since 2017, MEF has been using these AI-based smart learning platforms that give students an individualized learning experience.
We have created a customized bot called EconOwl for one of our Macroeconomics course. We integrated the bot to the courses learning management system page over at Blackboard. The bot supports Flipped Learning by helping students prepare for class through their pre-class work. We are gathering data on students usage. Based on lessons learned from this pilot, we will create more customized bots and integrate them into our other courses.
We provide our full-time faculty members with a Chat GPT Plus account and give Microsoft Copilot training for our part-time faculty.
Pre-training Vocabulary: We use AI to scan course materials, such as videos and slides, identifying and defining complex vocabulary and key terms. We then create weekly flashcard sets and embed them into courses.
Voiceover: We us voice technologies to convert class reading materials into audio, integrating them into courses, to make learning more accessible.
Since the beginning of the 22-23 academic year we have been runining the following workshops for our faculty:
Introduction to AI
Create your asistant using AI
Flipped Learning Instructional Design using AI
With the help of MEF University Computer Engineering department, MEF University School of Foreign Languages, and MEF University Library, we created a private course on Coursera to teach our students fundamental AI literacy skills.
AI Café provides weekly support sessions for educators to explore and integrate AI into their curricula, with personalized guidance available both in-person and online. Additionally, the AI Café lab in the MEFTek building offers students and staff access to advanced AI tools. For more information, visit the AI Café website.
We took part in the development of the MEF University AI Policy. You can access the the policy here.
