Eduroam

eduroam stands for Education Roaming. By using 802.1x security standards over RADIUS-based infrastructure, eduroam aims to ensure that users of member institutions can seamlessly network in other educational institutions.

Users of eduroam member institutions can connect to the network from another eduroam member (Guest Institution) with the username password pairs they use to connect to the network in their own institutions (Home Organization). When the user sends a connection request to the eduroam broadcast received while the guest is in the host institution, the authorization server of the guest institution determines whether he or she is authorized by directing that user to the authorization server of his home institution. Performing all these queries through an encrypted tunnel between the servers prevents the user and password pairs from being seen outside the user's own home server. In this case, all the users have to do is define the eduroam wireless network in the host institution as if it were connected to their own network.

eduroam has a federation hierarchy. There are currently two confederations in the world: the European eduroam confederation and the Asia-Pacific (APAN) eduroam confederation. eduroam member institutions send queries to eduroam federations located in their own countries and federations of countries. Turkey is attached to the European eduroam confederation and federation joined the AP that each new confederation and each new institutions participating in them can be recognized by everyone involved with this hierarchy. Visit eduroam to see the participants in the confederations.
