Biography

Özgür Kaymak completed her Ph.D degree at the Istanbul University, Department of Public Administration and Political Science with her dissertation titled “The Socio-Spatial Construction of Istanbul’s Rum, Jewish and Armenian Communities”. After receiving a B.A. degree in Economics from Arizona State University, USA, she completed Executive Education at INSEAD. She is the author of the books titled “İstanbul’da Az(ınlık) Olmak: Gündelik Hayatta Rumlar, Yahudiler, Ermeniler” (Being a Minority in Istanbul: Rums, Jews, Armenians in the Daily Life) by Libra and “Kısmet Tabii… İstanbul’un Rum, Yahudi ve Ermeni Toplumlarında Karma Evlilikler” (Mixed Marriages in Rum, Jewish and Armenian Communities of Istanbul) by Istos. Her writings are also published at Bianet, Agos, Avlaremoz, Al Monitor and Arab News.

Research areas

Her academic interest areas are ethno-religious minorities, memory studies, family and marriage studies, gender and feminist theories. Her studies in these fields are published in various national and international academic journals and as book chapters. She also takes part in international projects related to academic fields of study.
