Biography

Meltem Deniz Güner-Özbek graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1996. She started her academic career at the Istanbul University Faculty of Law Maritime & Insurance Law Department in 1998. She received LL.M degree from the Istanbul University Social Sciences Institute with the thesis titled Coverage in Construction Insurance in 2000 and started Ph.D. program in private law at the same institute in the same year. After passing doctoral qualification exam in 2002, she started LL.M in Admiralty Law program at the Tulane University Law School (U.S.A) and received her second LL.M degree from the Tulane University in 2003. She started Ph.D. program at the International Max-Planck Research School for Maritime Affairs at the University of Hamburg (Germany) in 2003 and received doctoral degree with the thesis titled Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Sea with summa cum laude from University of Hamburg in 2007. She has been awarded Harry F. Stiles Scholarship for her LL.M study at Tulane University and scholarship of Max-Planck Society for her Ph.D. study in Germany. Her Ph.D. thesis has been published by the Springer Publishing House. She worked as an assistant professor at the Koç University Faculty of Law between 2008-2015 She is teaching and searching in the fields of Maritime Law, Insurance Law, Air Law and Transport Law. She is the main author of the book titled Insurance Law in Turkey (3rd ed.) published by Kluwer Publishing House.
