Biography

Prof. Dr. B. Süheyl Batum (born on May 6, 1955) completed his primary and high school education at Galatasaray High School in 1975 and his university education at Paris I University (Panthéon-Sorbonne) in 1979. In March 1980, he started working as an assistant at the Constitutional Law Department of Istanbul University Faculty of Law. In 1984, within the framework of his academic studies, he successfully completed his doctoral qualification exam with a "very good" grade and obtained the title of "doctor" in 1986 with his doctoral thesis on "Referendum as a Means of Political Participation." In 1987, Prof. Dr. B. Süheyl Batum was promoted to assistant professorship in the Constitutional Law Department of Istanbul University Faculty of Law. In 1989, he completed his associate professorship thesis in France with a scholarship from the Council of Europe, earning the title of associate professor in 1990 with his thesis titled "The European Convention on Human Rights and its Effects on the Turkish Constitutional System." In 1996, he became a professor at Galatasaray University Faculty of Law with his book titled "The European Court of Human Rights and Turkey." From 1995 to 1997, he served as the General Secretary of Galatasaray University, from 1997 to 2000 as the Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Galatasaray University, from 2000 to 2003 as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Bahçeşehir University, and from 2003 to 2007 as the Rector of Bahçeşehir University. Prof. Dr. BATUM held various academic positions, teaching courses in "Constitutional Law" and other subjects at Istanbul, Marmara, Bahçeşehir, Bilgi, Yeditepe, and Okan University Law Faculties until 2010. In 2010, he entered politics, briefly serving as the General Secretary of the CHP (Republican People's Party), and from 2011 to 2015, he served as a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (Eskişehir). Prof. Dr. Süheyl Batum is proficient in French.
