Biography
Prof. Dr. Güçlü Akyürek graduated from Galatasaray University Faculty of Law in 2004. He studied for a
semester at Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne University as an Erasmus exchange student. He obtained his LL.M
degree in criminal law from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University in 2005 and his Ph.D. from Galatasaray
University with his thesis entitled “Offence to the privacy”.
Prof. Dr. Akyürek conducted legal research at several Universities and Institutions abroad, including in the
UK, France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
He became an associate professor in 2016 with his thesis entitled “Retrial”. He is fluent in English, French,
and German.
Prof. Dr. Akyürek is currently a member of the Clinical Research Ethics Board of the Faculty of Dentistry of
Istanbul University and of ANESC (Academic Network on the European Social Charter and Social Rights),
and a board member of the Turkish Penal Law Association.
His main research interests include comparative criminal law, criminal law, criminal procedure law,
privacy, criminal labour law, and medical law. He teaches criminal law, criminal procedure, and
criminology.
